The short version
- 1Read the line in the middle of the empty map — it names the reason rather than making you guess.
- 2A filter message is yours to undo — clear the filters and your doors come back.
- 3A message about no leads on this device means nobody has assigned you any yet.
- 4An empty route with leads waiting just means you haven't tapped Plan yet.
An empty map looks like a broken app, and it almost never is. The app works out why it’s empty and says so in the middle of the screen — so the first move is always to read that line rather than to start tapping.
There are five things it can say, and they need completely different responses.
“No leads match these filters”
This one is yours, and it’s one tap to undo. You’ve narrowed the map down to nothing — a stage, a date range, a list, or whose leads to show. Clear the filters and your doors come back.
This is by far the commonest cause, and it’s worth knowing that filters stay set. You filtered to “not visited in 30 days” on Tuesday, and on Wednesday the map is empty because nothing qualifies any more.
“No leads on this device yet”
Nobody has assigned you any leads. It is not something you’ve done and it isn’t something you can fix from the map.
Two ways forward, and the line on screen offers both:
- Ask your office to assign you some. They do it from the console, and it arrives on your phone within seconds of them doing it.
- Add one yourself with the + button. If you’re standing outside a house you want to work, you don’t have to wait for anybody.
“Every lead of yours is finished — won, lost or Do Not Contact”
You have leads. Every single one of them is closed. Nothing is left open to knock.
That’s a good problem, and the answer is the same as above: ask for more work, or add your own. It’s also worth a glance at your pipeline to be sure nothing got marked closed by accident.
“Nothing on today’s route matches”
You’re looking at the map filtered to today’s route, and the route either hasn’t been built or everything on it is done. Switch the filter back to all your leads, or go and plan the day.
“Nothing on [list name] is on the map yet”
You’ve opened a list, and none of the properties on it has a position on the map yet — usually because they were imported without one, and the office hasn’t finished looking up the addresses. They’re still in your leads list; they just can’t be drawn.
An empty route screen
Different screen, two possible messages, and they’re easy to tell apart.
“No route planned yet” with a count — something like “38 leads are waiting. Put the closest ones in walking order and get going.” Nothing is wrong. Tap the Plan button underneath it. That’s the whole fix.
“Nothing is assigned to you for today” — there’s nothing the route could be built from. Which needs explaining, because it doesn’t necessarily mean you have no leads at all. A lead is only routable if all three of these are true:
- It’s still open — not won, lost or Do Not Contact.
- You haven’t already visited it today. (Knocking the same door twice in a day annoys the homeowner and inflates your own numbers, so the app won’t put it back in front of you.)
- It has a position on the map. A lead with no location can’t be walked to.
So a rep who knocked forty doors this morning and finished them all will see this message at four o’clock with forty leads to their name. That’s the app working, not failing.
The map loads but there’s no imagery
Different problem: the streets are there, the photography isn’t. Almost always signal — the imagery comes down as you pan, and it’s the first thing to go. See Working with No Signal, which covers downloading an area before you go out.
If you’re in a text-message or social app’s built-in browser, a yellow bar at the top tells you so — and your location doesn’t work in there, which the map needs to centre on you.
Still nothing
Before you call anyone, check these in order:
Read the line in the middle of the screen again
It’s specific, and the response to each of the five is different. Say which one it is when you ask for help — it saves everybody ten minutes.
Clear every filter
Including the list, if you have one open, and including the route filter.
Check location is on
The map can still draw your leads without it, but it can’t centre on you or work out which door is nearest. More → Edit profile won’t fix this — it’s a phone setting. See Setting Up Your Account.
Check the sync chip
If it says Offline, you’re looking at whatever was on the phone the last time you had signal. Newly assigned leads won’t be there yet.
